Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi might only be 19, but they’ve cemented themselves as fixtures of this Spanish national team.

Both Cubarsi and Yamal played all 90 minutes in Spain’s dominant 2-0 win over France in the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup.

But just by starting the game, both players have allowed Spain to make history at the tournament, doing something no other team in the past has ever done.

Spain become first time in FIFA World Cup history to start a semi-final with two teenagers

With both Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal being just 19 years of age, their presence in this stellar Spanish squad is nothing to be scoffed at.

And by deciding to start both players in such a crucial game, Luis de la Fuente made history, as Spain became the first team in World Cup history to have two teenagers start a semi-final game.

This just goes to show the quality both players have, as they have become undroppable players for one of the best teams in the world at such a young age.

Cubarsi in particular was stellar, putting on a defensive masterclass against what had been the best attack in tournament up to that point.

And while Yamal’s goal got ruled out for being marginally offside, his presence in the box helped Spain earn the penalty that Mikel Oyarzabal converted to give them the lead in the game.

Barcelona’s starlets are helping drive Spain’s new golden generation

While he is only 19, Yamal has been a regular presence in the Spanish national team for a few years now, even helping the team win the 2024 Euros as a regular starter.

As for Pau Cubarsi, he has become the defensive anchor of de la Fuente’s side, providing Spain with stability at the back and distributing the ball with elite precision.

These two youngsters, along with Fermin Lopez, who missed the World Cup due to injury, have become central figures in Spain’s new golden generation.

If these young players continue developing into the stars they’re on the trajectory to becoming, Spain will be an unstoppable force in world football for many years to come.
