Alexandre Lacazette has taken to Instagram to applaud Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after his move from Arsenal to Barcelona – and Aubameyang has responded. The duo are renowned to be close friends.
Aubameyang, 32, completed a permanent move to Barcelona on deadline day after being stripped of the Arsenal captaincy. He had been ostracised by Mikel Arteta, failing to play for the Gunners since the start of December.
A move was inevitable and perhaps, the only surprise was that it took until the end of the January window to materialise. That, partly, was down to Aubameyang’s participation at the African Cup of Nations.
Lacazette followed Saka’s example by posting on Instagram a heartfelt message to his old strike partner. In an emotional post, he said his four-year spell with the Gunners would have been different without Aubameyang.
Aubameyang replies to Lacazette: Arsenal needed a replacement
With Aubameyang leaving, Arsenal have been left with just Eddie Nketiah and Lacazette as options up top – with Gabriel Martinelli best from the left. Both strikers are out of contract at the end of the season.
Flo Balogun, of course, is on loan until the end of the season with Middlesbrough. Arsenal really needed to bring in a replacement and are said to have made an offer for Alexander Isak – worth £58million.
Aubameyang has replied to Lacazette on his Instagram post and equally as heartfelt message, commenting “you know everything”.
