Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim that Arsenal have seen a £58million bid rejected for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak. The La Liga club want his release clause paid in full – a whopping £75million, a club-record fee.

Isak, 22, enjoyed a stellar season at Sociedad last season – scoring 17 goals in 34 La Liga matches. His form this time around might not be as good, but he is still as effective – with eight goals in all competitions so far.

Given his age, Isak is a proper talent and a striker that is only going to get better. Arsenal have reportedly shortlisted Isak as a striker target, along with Dom Calvert-Lewin. Dusan Vlahovic too, before his move to Juventus.

Now, MD report that Arsenal have now tabled a fee of £58million – but that bid has been rejected by Sociedad, who want his release clause in full. A £75million deal would make him Arsenal’s highest-paid player.

Isak to cost £75million: Will Arsenal make last-minute move?

It seems unlikely that Arsenal are going to pay a huge fee of £75million on deadline day, though it is only a £17million difference from their previous offer. Whether Sociedad could compromise, remains to be seen.

But Arsenal do need a striker. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract in the summer and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks as if he is going to be ostracised by Mikel Arteta after the international break.

A move for Isak could hinge on whether Barcelona can strike a deal and the player’s wages are paid in full – in a proposed loan for Aubameyang. If Aubameyang goes, perhaps, a huge last-minute bid for Isak could happen.
