Chelsea fans would love to go back to 2021. It was when Roman Abramovich was still in charge and the team was winning the Champions League.

Back then, someone like Sadio Mane was considered one of the best in the world in his position, with the then-Liverpool star battling Manchester City for major honours.

Pep Guardiola’s side had their own array of top talent in their ranks, including a certain Raheem Sterling.

Fast forward to the present and the 29-year-old is struggling so much in Chelsea colours to the point that his own fans are booing him.

Not even the most ardent of Raheem Sterling fans would be lauding or applauding him here, unless you are Yaya Toure, of course.

The legendary midfielder was asked to name his ‘top three left-wingers in the world today’ by ESPN UK.

You would have to question. Is this 2019? 2020? Or 2021? Because his answers certainly have to be questioned.

The name of Raheem Sterling was put on the table by the former Barcelona player, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, to name a few, clearly playing another sport.

“Three best left-wingers,” repeated Toure. “Oof, okay, if you go left like you said, Leroy (Sane), Raheem Sterling, love it and Sadio Mane.”

Who is the best left winger in the world?

Mbappe plays down that side for club and country, but has also operated as a centre-forward.

That puts him in the conversation, so surely he has to be top because, never mind him being one of the best left-sided attackers in the world, he is one of the best in the world full stop.

Then there is Mbappe’s possible future Real Madrid teammate – Vinicius Jr.

A player of incredible close control, dribbling ability and speed. It’s pretty scary to think that Madrid will be lining up with those two next season.

Then the rest can fight amongst themselves. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia lit up Italy and helped Napoli win Serie A last season, but has gone off the boil slightly now, whilst Gabriel Martinelli is growing in Arsenal colours.
