Kris Boyd feels Celtic may look to ‘cash in now’ on Kyogo Furuhashi as the striker has the ‘potential to move on’ from Parkhead this summer.

Celtic are steamrolling their way to another domestic treble this season with Kyogo fuelling Ange Postecoglou’s trophy-winning machine in Glasgow.

The 28-year-old has scored 29 goals and offered five assists in 44 games in all competitions so far this term. His haul includes 23 goals in 31 Premiership matches.

Kyogo has been a revelation since his transfer to Celtic

Kyogo also handed Celtic the League Cup trophy in February with both of the Hoops’ goals to beat Rangers 2-1. His strikes in the final saw Celtic retain the trophy.

While his performances at the top of Postecoglou’s attack have also helped the Bhoys make the 2022/23 Scottish Cup final.

The Scottish Cup was the only trophy missing from Postecoglou and Kyogo’s first seasons at Celtic last term. They stormed to the Premiership and are set to retain the title.

Kyogo has been a revelation since arriving at Parkhead from Vissel Kobe for £4.5m in July 2021. His goals have also more than made up for the loss of Odsonne Edouard.

Celtic sold Edouard to Crystal Palace in August 2021 for £14m, rising to £18.5m. He had entered the final year of his contract in Glasgow.

While Edouard similarly shone at Celtic after replacing Moussa Dembele, who joined Lyon in September 2018 for £20m.

Boyd feels Celtic could cash in on Kyogo like Dembele and Edouard

But Boyd fears Edouard and Dembele’s decline away from Celtic could now hinder Kyogo’s hopes should the Hoops sanction his transfer.

Boyd wrote in his column for The Scottish Sun: “He has the potential to move on in the summer as there is no way scouts could fail to notice him.

“Celtic might decide to cash in now. Although what counts against him is the fact [that] proven goalscorers in Scotland seem to come up short across Europe.

“Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard have done no better than OK since their big-money moves from Parkhead. I expected a lot more from them and that could count against Kyogo through no fault of his own.”

Reports by Calciomercato in March 2023 noted Crystal Palace have eyes on Kyogo’s transfer from Celtic. The Eagles would even table a £20m bid for the striker.

Edouard has only scored 12 goals across 64 matches since the 25-year-old left Parkhead for Selhurst Park. He had hit home 87 in 179 games with the Bhoys.

Dembele, meanwhile, fired 51 goals in 94 outings for Celtic before netting 70 in 171 games for Lyon. He also spent time on loan at Atletico Madrid in 2021 but failed to score.
