Speaking on The View from The Lane Podcast, Jurgen Klinsmann has been discussing Antonio Conte and the job he is doing at Tottenham.
The Italian isn’t having the best of times in the Spurs dugout right now. Tottenham still sit in the top four in the Premier League, but three losses in their last five games indicate that a slump could be on its way.
However, despite their recent poor form, Klinsmann has come out to bat for Conte, stating that the gaffer knows what he’s doing and that he has the mentality to finally bring some silverware back to north London.

Conte backed by Klinsmann
The German gave the Spurs boss his backing.
“The coaching staff is very, very experienced, and has done it already. Antonio (Conte) knows what he’s doing,” Klinsmann said.
“It should become a norm, a standard to say, you know what, every year we want one trophy, at least every year. Conte can absolutely bring that mentality, because he lived that through his life and his career too.”
Could’ve been him
Klinsmann was complimentary of the Italian, but in another world it really could’ve been the German in charge of Spurs.
Indeed, the Tottenham legend admitted on the BBC back in 2020 after the sacking of Jose Mourinho that he wanted the job.
“I called him [Levy] after he let Mourinho go,” said Klinsmann.
“I said ‘Daniel, what’s the case now?’ and he said ‘I have so much to do right now, I have to sort things out at the club and let’s talk later on’.
“Then I saw all the different names walking in and talking and walking out. And the same still today, Spurs is in my heart, absolutely I would consider that, but nobody can force him.”
“But you’d be interested?” Gary Lineker queried.
“Absolutely,” Klinsmann concluded.
Klinsmann seemingly doesn’t have any hard feelings about the fact that he didn’t get the Spurs job and believes that the club are in safe hands with Conte.
However, if he is still interested in managing Tottenham, an opportunity to do so may not be too far away considering Spurs’ awful form and performances as of late.
Klinsmann may well be picking up the phone to give Daniel Levy another call soon.
