The New York Knicks have brought back another one of their key free agents from their 2026 NBA title run, re-signing Jordan Clarkson.

The Knicks were entering the 2026 free agency with the prospect of losing key title contributors Jose Alvarado, Landry Shamet, Mitchell Robinson, and Clarkson.

With Clarkson returning to the franchise, the Knicks have officially gone 3-4.

Jordan Clarkson returns to Knicks bench as a veteran scorer

ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed that Clarkson had signed a veteran’s minimum to return to the franchise for next season.

“Free agent Jordan Clarkson has agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million deal to return to the New York Knicks, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Brandon Cavanaugh tell ESPN.”

The 34-year-old Clarkson averaged 8.6 points over the regular season before contributing 4.9 points per game in the title-winning playoff run.

He was an end-of-the-rotation player but was a veteran presence on the bench with former title-winning experience as a member of the iconic 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers.

Knicks lost their most important free agent but retained the others

Knicks owner James Dolan made it clear that the franchise was not allowed to go into the second apron of the NBA luxury tax to retain their title-winning core before the offseason began.

Despite internal dissatisfaction with that order, the front office managed to negotiate team-friendly extensions for Alvarado (three-year, $14.3 million), Shamet (four-year, $23.9 million), and now Clarkson.

Mitchell Robinson left for division rivals Boston Celtics after signing a three-year, $47.3 million offer sheet that the Knicks just couldn’t match despite holding his Bird rights.

The Knicks have signed Andre Drummond to be an archetypal replacement, but Robinson’s departure ends an eight-year stint as he was the longest-tenured Knick on the title-winning squad.

Hopefully, keeping their core together and replacing Drummond with Robinson helps the Knicks stay the favorites in the Conference after aggressive moves by the Raptors, 76ers, and Heat, with LeBron James potentially joining an East contender to help them move towards the title as well.
