Liverpool cannot sign any more players for the moment, but they can sure lose some.
The transfer window in England is closed and therefore Liverpool are unable to add to their ranks.
But it remains open elsewhere in Europe and one of those country where it’s business as normal is Turkey.
Divock Origi has been linked with a move away from the Reds in recent days and Fotospor reported this week that the Anfield club and Fenerbahce have held positive talks over signing him.
But that is very unlikely to happen now after what Jurgen Klopp has just done.
What has he done?
The Liverpool boss has included the Belgian striker in his Champions League squad for the upcoming group-stage campaign.
Their squad was officially confirmed on Saturday and Origi’s name is very significant.
Had Klopp omitted the former Lille hitman, it would’ve been a massive sign that he’s on his way out of the club but, because he included him, it is, by the same logic, an indication that he intends for the player to stay.
It’s been an awful few seasons for the 26-year-old.
He made himself a cult figure in 2019 by scoring twice against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final win at Anfield – yes, that win – and then again in the final over Spurs.
But in the two seasons since then, Origi has managed only a total of 885 minutes of football in the Premier League – the equivalent of nine full games.
It’s time for him to move on because this time around won’t be much different, but it looks like he’ll be staying until January at the earliest.
