Newcastle United could now face stiff competition for Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier, according to Eurosport.

Eurosport are reporting this morning that Newcastle believe that they are closing in on the signing of the former Tottenham Hotspur right-back.

The England international is serious about returning to English football in the January trasnfer window.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has reportedly sold ‘the club to Trippier and his camp’.

However, according to the report, six other Premier League clubs have enquired about what is needed to sign the 31-year-old in the January transfer window.

Kieran Trippier transfer blow for Newcastle

In our opinion, this reported new problem is a potential transfer blow for Newcastle in their quest to sign Trippier, who earns £77,000 per week (Salary Sport).

The 31-year-old has just returned from an injury spell.

And now with so many clubs interested in the former Spurs star, he may not think that a move to Newcastle now would suit him.

After all, Newcastle are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship.

Trippier won the La Liga title with Atletico last season and has regularly played in the Champions League.

Now, of course, Newcastle can easily pay Trippier more than the £77,000-a-week salary he is getting at Atletico.

However, would the right-back be willing to take the chance about relegation when he seemingly has other options?
