Kevin Hart looked around at the tears in New York after the Knicks’ title and decided one courtside loyalist deserved more than just congratulations.

The Knicks’ first championship since 1973 turned Madison Square Garden’s long-suffering fanbase into a citywide celebration.

Hart’s video message began with that emotion, pointing to fans crying real tears after decades of waiting for this moment.

Kevin Hart wants Spike Lee to get a Knicks ring

Hart’s message quickly turned to Lee, the most recognizable Knicks fan of the modern era and the celebrity face most associated with their courtside culture.

“Shout out to Spike Lee, give Spike a ring. He deserves a f—– championship ring. I’m saying it here: give Spike a New York Knicks championship ring. That moth——- has been there for 76 years, in the front row. He’s spent $17 million on Knicks games. Give Spike a ring. Congrats, Spike, let’s go.”

It was classic Hart, exaggerated, profane, and easy to understand. Lee had been there through the losing, the false dawns, the playoff heartbreak, and now the payoff.

There is no indication yet that the Knicks will give Lee a ring, but the organization could choose to honor him. Championship ring distribution is largely controlled by teams and ownership, with players, coaches, executives, staff, and other selected figures often included in different tiers.

Spike Lee’s Knicks relationship is now 41 years deep

Lee has been a Knicks season-ticket holder since 1985, the same year Patrick Ewing arrived, making his official season-ticket relationship with the franchise 41 years old in 2026.

His connection goes even deeper as a New Yorker and fan, but 1985 is the clean marker for his permanent MSG presence. The courtside seat, orange-and-blue outfits, and constant reactions made him part of the franchise’s public identity.

That is why Hart’s demand lands after Jalen Brunson led New York past San Antonio in five games, won Finals MVP, and ended the 53-year title drought. Spike did not score a basket, but few non-players symbolize the wait more clearly.

Lee has already collected Knicks history in his own way, including a 1970 Red Holzman championship ring he bought at auction. This would be different.

A 2026 ring from the organization would not make him part of the roster, but it would recognize something real. For four decades, Spike Lee made Knicks loyalty visible. Hart is arguing that the first title of that era should make the appreciation official.
