Martin Keown has said on BBC Two (6:15pm, May 23, 2021) that he does not think that Gareth Bale will be back at Tottenham Hotspur next season.

Bale is returning to his parent club Real Madrid after spending the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Spurs.

Arsenal legend Keown does not think that the 31-year-old Wales international winger will be back at Tottenham.

On the same show, the former Arsenal star said that Harry Kane’s body language after the match against Leicester showed that he is leaving.

Sky Sports reported last week that Kane has told Spurs that he wants to leave.

Keown said about Bale on BBC Two (6:15pm, May 23, 2021): “I would love him to stay, but I don’t think it’s going to happen because he has had ample opportunities throughout the season.

“When you look at what that Spurs team have done today (against Leicester City), you have to be a little bit suspicious of the performance.

“Where was that earlier in the season? Maybe that was the manager that had the handbrake on.”

Bale has had fitness and injury problems at Spurs.

When Jose Mourinho was in charge, the Portuguese did not always play Bale regularly.

It is never easy for any player to just turn on the style if he is not given an extended run in the team.

However, as Bale showed with his two goals against Leicester City on Sunday, he still has the quality and calibre.

The winger made 10 starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.

The Wales international scored 11 goals and gave two assists in the process.

Bale also made seven starts and three substitute appearances in the Europa League this campaign, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the process.
