Kenny Miller has told BBC Sportscene – as per the Record – that Celtic have made a better start to the season than Old Firm rivals Rangers FC and look more exciting in the final third – ahead of September 3’s clash between the two sides.

Both sides have begun the Scottish Premiership campaign with two wins apiece. Goals for Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos saw Rangers beat Kilmarnock 2-0 at Ibrox on Saturday, while Celtic scored three away from home.

They beat Ross County 3-1, despite County equalising just before the hour mark. It comes after both sides won their opening match – meaning the duo sit on six points after two games. Rangers, of course, lost in European action.

In a Champions League qualifying match against Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, Rangers went down 2-0. A dismal display, that seriously jeopardises their chances of matching Celtic in reaching the group stages this season.

Miller compared the starts made by Rangers and Celtic and despite the Hoops scoring one more goal than Rangers so far, he says they look better going forward. He thinks Rangers look more-dogged, but does not expect points dropped.

“Celtic have started playing a bit better, they look really exciting going forward. Rangers have been more dogged, but they’ve been getting results which is the important thing. Performances will improve as the weeks pass.”

Miller: Celtic have made better start than Rangers

Miller is right, in that Celtic have looked better at this stage of the season. But that was always likely to be the case. Unlike last summer, where Celtic made numerous signings, it is Rangers that need more time to gel this time.

They have brought in numerous additions that have changed the starting XI. Allan McGregor no longer starts in goal. John Souttar or Ben Davies will partner Connor Goldson. Ridvan Yilmaz could start ahead of Borna Barisic.

Tom Lawrence, Malik Tillman and Rabbi Matondo have all shown glimpses as to why they could start in attacking midfield. Colak has started all three games, and scored on Saturday. A summer of change that will require time.
