Kenny Dalglish and Spanish side Athletic Bilbao have congratulated Celtic on Twitter after they were confirmed as Scottish Premiership champions on Wednesday night. That is, despite only drawing against Dundee United.

Ange Postecoglou’s side only required a point with six separating Celtic and Old Firm rivals Rangers going into Wednesday. Giovanni van Bronckhorst watched his side dispatch Ross County 4-1, while Celtic drew 1-1 at United.

Georgios Giakoumakis continued his brilliant second-half to the campaign with another goal just after the half-time break – before United equalised on 72 minutes through Dylan Levitt. But it was enough to secure another title.

The 52nd in the club’s glittering history, and a tenth in 11 seasons – which Alan Thompson referred to on Twitter. Hoops icon Dalglish had praise for Aussie boss Postecoglou, while Bilbao congratulated the Hoops.

It has been a stunning campaign for Celtic. Even more remarkable given the state of the club – from board to playing staff – when Postecoglou took over last summer. His overhaul, in many ways, has got Celtic back to their best.

A complete revolution of the playing staff, a completely new system and that family togetherness is back. Postecoglou is to thank for that, a manager that was ridiculed by some when he took over – over his coaching badges.

It is a brilliant Premiership win and even better because it sees Celtic immediately qualify for the Champions League group stages. Rangers could join them, if they beat Frankfurt in the Europa League final.
