Leeds United star Kemar Roofe has shared his opinion on head coach Paul Heckingbottom to Leeds Live.

Roofe, who can operate as a winger or as a striker, has just recovered from his injury and is back in action for Leeds.

The 25-year-old, who cost Leeds £3 million in transfer fees according to BBC Sport when they signed him from Oxford United in the summer of 2016, has shared what he thinks of Heckingbottom, who was appointed the first-team manager of the West Yorkshire outfit since February 2018 following the departure of Thomas Christiansen.

Roofe told Leeds Live about Heckingbottom: “He just wants me to play my style, give 100 per cent, play with confidence.”

“I like him,” added Roofe about Heckingbottom. “He’s been honest with us and he keeps it simple. Wants us to go back to basics. Wants us to play nice, simple football.

“Looking forward to seeing his own pre-season. We’re just in a bad patch at the moment. Disappointed with the results for him, but for us as a whole as players. We have to up our game and try and get the three points.”

Under pressure

Results under Heckingbottom have been dire for Leeds, who were in the running in the Championship playoffs when he was appointed in the role.

One suspects that the former Barnsley manager will have to get some wins in the final weeks of the season in order to keep his job at Elland Road beyond the summer, as the club’s hierarchy must surely be wondering why the results and the performances have been so bad in recent weeks.

Leeds fans also want the club to dismiss Heckingbottom, as reported by HITC Sport on more than one occasion.
