Kansas City Royals hero Salvador Perez issues appeal to police over fan arrested for fountain entry

There was a truly bizarre incident to occur during the Kansas City Royals’ victory earlier this week against the San Francisco Giants.

It involved one Royals fan being arrested by local police inside the stadium after he retrieved a Salvador Perez home run ball.

However, this was not any ordinary home run ball, it was Perez’s record-tying hit that brought him level with George Brett for the most home runs scored in franchise history.

The ball soared past the fans in the pen and into a fountain at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

After jumping the fence and retrieving the historic home run ball from the fountain, the Royals fan was quickly put in handcuffs by the local police.

Perez has since sent out a plea for the fan to be released.

The fan in question was clearly a huge fan of the Royals legend as he was wearing a Perez jersey for the game in Kansas City.

He thought he had secured himself a piece of history through grabbing the 36-year-old’s 317^th home run ball.

But it was not to be, the Royals fan had to hand over the ball and was escorted out of the stadium by the police.

“Please, police, just take care of the job please and send him home,” said Perez.

“If I was him, I’d maybe jump too and try to get that ball, so please. And thank you for the hard work in trying to get that ball.”

The team’s website does state that entering the fountain will automatically result in an arrest, but this was a piece of history at stake for the fan in question.

Catching a home run ball becomes the immediate property of the fan who makes the grab, but the fountains are off limits.

‘If at any time a guest enters a fountain, they will be immediately arrested, transported to the police station downtown and charged to the fullest extent of the law,’ states the website.

This fan may also have now lost the privilege of attending games as a punishment for clearly breaking the stadium’s rules.
