Trevor Sinclair has said on talkSPORT (8:15am, September 3, 2021) that he is surprised that Manchester United did not make a move for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips in the summer transfer window.

The former Manchester City winger believes that if Leeds do not start challenging for the Premier League top four, then Philips could leave next summer.

The Englishman has added that he is surprised that Premier League giants United did not go for the 25-year-old to bolster their defensive midfield.

Sinclair said on talkSPORT (8:15am, September 3, 2021): “I think Kalvin Phillips is ready.

“If Leeds do not really pick up this season and start threatening the top four, I think Kalvin Phillips will go.

“I am actually quite surprised that Manchester United didn’t have a look at him.”

Unlikely Manchester United transfer

Yes, Leeds signed Daniel James from United on summer transfer deadline day, but it is always unlikely that a player like Phillips would move in the opposite direction.

Remember, the West Yorkshire club and the Red Devils are bitter rivals.

Phillips is a Leeds fan who would know that a move to United would damage his relationship with the supporters.

Future Leeds United exit?

Leeds are unlikely to challenge for the Champions League places in the Premier League table this season.

However, the Elland Road outfit need not worry about the midfielder leaving next summer.

Leeds are a well-run club now who are not in desperate need of raising cash by selling their best players.
