If Tottenham put their strongest side out they will get a result, and it should be that simple. The question is whether Mauricio Pochettino elects to complicate matters by picking his second choice team as he did in the Europa League last season. I expect him to learn from his mistakes, and Spurs should get a result which effectively ends the tie with the home game still remaining.

The Belgian side reached the knockout stages of the Champions League last season and, having fallen to eighth in their domestic standings, Europe represents the last chance to salvage a disappointing season. Spurs will need to be on guard but, even amid expected changes, should have enough quality to get an away goal or two.

Gent have struggled against the better teams in Europe this season, being well-beaten twice by Shakhtar Donetsk and even losing to Hungarian top flight runners-up Videoton. Even a rotated Tottenham team should emerge victorious, provided they are not complacent.

Tottenham are likely to field a much-changed side for this match and while Gent are not pulling up trees domestically they will be up for this clash. Spurs should win through on aggregate but this could be a draw.

A full strength Spurs side should blow Gent away, but I think Pochettino may rotate a little, which will make this game much closer than it would be otherwise. The Belgians are struggling domestically, way down in eighth place, but Tottenham will have to put out a competitive team, in the away leg at least.
