Juventus now want to rival Newcastle for ‘incredible’ 24-year-old superstar

Juventus have reportedly joined the race to sign Olympique Lyonnais star Houssem Aouar, with Newcastle United also keeping tabs on the France international ahead of the January window.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian powerhouses are keeping their options open over signing a new midfielder in the new year, with Aouar emerging as a potential option for Juventus as Massimiliano Allegri looks to turn things around for the Turin side.

Juventus crashed out of the UEFA Champions League this week and currently sit eighth in the Serie A standings, a whole ten points off leaders Napoli. And with the club in too big a financial hole to sack Allegri, shrewd signings in the market could be the way out of this mess, with Aouar on their radar.

The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer with CalcioMercatoWeb recently reporting that Newcastle are now interested in signing Aouar, who is also being chased by the likes of Arsenal and now Juventus.

One of the best midfielders in Ligue 1, Aouar has been on the scene for quite some time, with the playmaker one of Lyon’s most important players and a staple for the French giants’ success in recent years. However, 2023 seems to be the year that the Les Bleus superstar will leave.

With Aouar’s contract expiring in the summer, a club like Juventus could land a bargain in January for the midfielder. And for Newcastle, missing out on the maestro will be a big blow given how much the 24-year-old could offer to the Magpies in the second half of the season.

Newcastle are in some of the best form the northeast side have experienced in quite some time, and a strong showing in the January market could work wonders for the Magpies’ ambition to return to Europe as early as next season, and signing Aouar could help with this dream.

After all, the midfielder, who Pep Guardiola hailed as ‘incredible’, oozes class and offers a lot that many of Newcastle’s players cannot do, and alongside former teammate Bruno Guimaraes, the Lyon star could flourish in the Premier League, but only if Eddie Howe’s side can beat Juventus to the punch.
