Owen Hargreaves has claimed that he is amazed that Heung-Min Son is still at Tottenham and not playing for the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United.

The former England midfielder told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (22/05/22 at 8:20 pm) that Son has had an ‘absolutely outstanding’ season.

On Sunday, Son, who netted a brace during Tottenham’s thrashing of already-relegated Norwich, finished the season as joint top-scorer with Mo Salah.

The 29-year-old still won a Golden Boot award for his efforts – and was praised by Dele Alli – but given that Salah takes penalties, it’s even more remarkable that he is able to compete with the best like that.

A player with incredible ball quality, composure and ruthless nature in front of goal, Son is one of the world’s best.

But Hargreaves, in agreement with Tim Sherwood, lauded the talent at Son’s feet and labelled the South Korean star as a ‘machine’.

“Son has been absolutely outstanding all season,” said Hargreaves. “Harry Kane is one of a kind.

“But Son, that is just an amazing finish (his second goal v Norwich). It’s amazing that he is, with the utmost respect to Tottenham, that he is still there.

“I am surprised he is not playing at Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United. The guy is just a machine. He has had an outstanding season.”

SON’S TALENTS WORTHY OF THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE STAGE

There has been a lot of talk about Harry Kane needing to win a trophy and possibly leaving Spurs to play at the highest level.

Well, a player like Son deserves to be mentioned in that conversation as well because he needs to win trophies and play Champions League football.

Both players will now get that in north London, and in truth, without them, Tottenham probably wouldn’t be in such a position.

But, with Antonio Conte at the helm, this is the best chance for Spurs to end their long-awaited reign of wanting to win a trophy – only Daniel Levy stands in their way.
