The Athletic are reporting that new Leeds United signing Junior Firpo did not seriously consider a move to Southampton in the January transfer window.
What’s the story?
It is being reported that Southampton wanted to sign Firpo from Barcelona in January.
The Saints were looking for a loan deal.
The report has claimed that ‘Southampton were never under major consideration’ by the 24-year-old Spanish left-back.
Firpo did not meet Southampton manager Ralph Hassenhutl.
Talks were not that advanced.
Leeds United transfer
Leeds announced the signing of Firpo from Barcelona earlier today.
The former Real Betis defender has signed a four-year contract with the West Yorkshire club.
Romain Perraud’s move to Southampton
Southampton may have missed out on Firpo in January, but the Saints did sign a new left-back this summer.
Romain Perraud was signed from Brest last week, despite reported interest from Leeds.

The youngster is a very good left-back who can still improve and get better.
After all, Perraud is only 23.
The Frenchman will replace Ryan Bertrand in the team and will be expected to hit the ground running.
Perraud made 35 starts and one substitute appearance in Ligue 1 for Brest last season.
The youngster scored three goals and gave seven assists in those matches.
