Leeds United did not make a bid for Romain Perraud before he moved to Southampton in the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.
What’s the story?
Leeds have announced the signing of Junior Firpo from Barcelona today.
However, before the 24-year-old Spanish left-back moved to Elland Road, Leeds were considering signing Perraud.
The 23-year-old left-back joined Leeds’s Premier League rivals Southampton last week from French club Brest.
The Athletic have reported that although Leeds did not make a bid for the youngster, they had actually ‘compiled a dossier of information’ on the Frenchman.
Romain Perraud v Junior Firpo
It will be interesting to see how Perraud and Firpo fare at Southampton and Leeds respectively next season and beyond.
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has described the Frenchman as a “robust guy with good aggression” on the club’s official website.

Firpo comes from Barcelona.
Yes, the Spanish left-back played only 41 times for Barca over the past two seasons, but you do not turn out for the Spanish giants if you are not a good player.
The Spanish left-back did well at Real Betis, and under Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa, he could get back to his best.
