Julien Laurens has told TalkSPORT (Tuesday, 11:25AM) that Antonio Conte’s representatives have held ‘informal’ talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the possibility of leaving Tottenham and replacing Mauricio Pochettino.
Reports emerged this week that having secured the Ligue 1 title with PSG, Pochettino could be on his way out of the club having failed to take PSG past Real Madrid in the Champions League’s last 16. His contract ends in 2023.
PSG are seemingly ready to get rid – and one of those that could replace him is current Spurs boss Conte, who might be about to consider his future in London if his players fail to secure fourth. Pochettino could rejoin Spurs.
French journalist Laurens has told TalkSPORT that Conte could end up replacing Pochettino. He confirms, he has been told that talks between PSG and Conte’s men has been held – and even Fabio Paratici could join him.
“Zidane is the priority, 100%. They’ve been talking to him for a while now. But he has the France national team in his mind, but only when Deschamps steps down. Conte was clever. If they fourth he will be happy to stay.
“If they do not get fourth, he is open to joining PSG. From what I’ve been told, in the informal talks – it is not Conte directly – PSG have been told that Conte would like to work here, along with his staff including Fabio Paratici.”
Laurens on Conte: Is it as simple as a straight swap with Pochettino?
It looks that way. It has since been reported that Daniel Levy has always been in talks with Pochettino and while the relationship might have been somewhat broken after his sacking – the two are still in contact.
But Tottenham are better with Conte in the dugout. The Italian is one of the world’s best, in a higher echelon than Pochettino. Yes, the romance of his return would excite – but Conte would deliver success first, if backed.
