Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui has rubbished the speculation about Matheus Nunes joining Liverpool, insisting that the player is happy.

While Jurgen Klopp’s side have been linked with Nunes before, it was claimed by the Telegraph that a transfer now seemed likely in the summer.

Furthermore, it was mentioned that Liverpool were expected to shell out a £44 million fee to wrap up a deal for the attacking midfielder.

An interesting detail that was also reported was that there was a “commitment” in place which allowed the Reds to sign Matheus Nunes.

Sky Sports went on to claim that Wolves would demand Liverpool to pay in excess of £50 million to sell the ex-Sporting CP star.

Ever since the start of the season, Liverpool have been linked with a host of midfielders.

With a number of the club’s big-names such as Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and James Milner struggling form, targets such as Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez have been tipped to work with Klopp.

While Nunes seemed to have joined this list, it seems as if the Merseyside-based outfit are yet to reach any agreement.

Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui has denied reports linking Matheus Nunes to Liverpool, emphasizing that he is set to stay.

“We can say that Matheus is our player, he’s a Wolves player and he’s so happy to be here”, Lopetegui said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool should not be gutted about the confirmation

While Pep Guardiola did once describe Matheus Nunes as “one of the best players in the world”, he is yet to justify the claim in the Premier League.

One can perhaps foresee Nunes shining as a hybrid between a No.8 and a No.10 in a Liverpool shirt.

However, it is anything but the end of the world for the club if Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui is bang on about the Portuguese international intending to stay.
