According to The Telegraph, Liverpool are back in for Matheus Nunes after he signed for Wolves in the summer.

The Portuguese midfielder was strongly linked with the Reds before heading to Molineux from Sporting a few months ago, but almost as soon as he joined Wolves, there was discussion about Liverpool going back in for the 24-year-old.

Now, it seems as though those rumours are going to come to pass, with the Telegraph now reporting that the Merseyside club have returned to exploring a deal for Nunes.

The Brazil-born Wolves ace hasn’t taken to the Premier League brilliantly so far – with his team currently sitting in the relegation zone, but the potential is most certainly there.

Indeed, Nunes has the ability to be a star, but don’t just take our word for it, Pep Guardiola, one of the best managers of all-time, has labelled him as one of the best players in the world.

Guardiola loves Nunes

The Spaniard spoke incredibly highly of Nunes after City beat Sporting 5-0

“Matheus Nunes is one of the best players in the world today. Despite the difficulties and some mistakes, I have to be very satisfied because we took a big step towards the next round. Nunes is one of the best at the moment,” Guardiola said.

Exaggerating

Guardiola said that Nunes is one of the best players in the world, but it’s hard to really believe the Manchester City boss actually believes this.

If he genuinely thought Nunes was that good, why didn’t City snap him up this summer instead of Wolves?

Of course, Guardiola is no stranger to exaggeration. After all, this is the manager who was in tears about never being able to replace Sergio Aguero before going out and signing Erling Haaland one year later, while he labelled a teenage Phil Foden as the most talented player he’d ever seen – ahead of Lionel Messi.

Nunes has some great attributes, but to say he’s one of the best players in the world is a bit of a stretch.
