Jude Bellingham is expected to be key to any success England have at the 2026 World Cup.

The Three Lions will get their campaign underway on Wednesday evening against Croatia.

It is their first tournament under German manager Thomas Tuchel, and expectations are high.

But luckily for Tuchel, Morgan Rogers thinks England have a player in Jude Bellingham who is among the ‘top 1%’ in the world when it comes to switching his role between goalscorer and defensive-minded midfielder.

Jude Bellingham’s ‘ability to switch’ among best in world, according to Morgan Rogers

In a recent interview posted on England’s official YouTube channel, Rogers was asked what ‘one thing would you take from Jude’.

Rogers replied: “I have two, one’s a football one, one’s kind of, the way he is.

“So the football one is, his ability to shift, like the defensive side of the game, like he can be a completely different player on a given day. I think that is the top 1% or even less of footballers.

“You can easily say to him, ‘today their number 10’s on it today, I need you there’, and he’ll be seamless. And you’ll look at his defensive actions, and they’re off a defensive midfielder of the highest level, given day.

“Given day, ‘Jude, we need you to win the game and score two’, win you the game. Or we need you this season, like his first year at Madrid, ‘we need you to get 20 goals, we don’t necessarily have a number nine, we need you to be that guy’. OK, no problem, then a striker will come in the following season, OK we need you to be all-round’.

“Like that ability to switch, people can’t do it like that, you can’t teach that.”

Bellingham has previously made 48 appearances for England, scoring six and assisting 10.

He netted a crucial goal against Slovakia at Euro 2024 in the Round of 16 and is expected to have a starring role at this summer’s tournament.

It remains to be seen exactly how Tuchel will use Bellingham, but given Harry Kane likes to drop deep, it would not be surprising to see the Real Madrid midfielder occupying the centre-forward role at times, with the Bayern Munich star moved further down the pitch to get on the ball.
