Jude Bellingham has made another piece of international history after starting for England against Croatia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Dallas on Wednesday.

The Real Madrid midfielder was named in Thomas Tuchel’s side for England’s Group L opener, with the Three Lions beginning their campaign against familiar tournament opponents.

That appearance carried major significance because Bellingham became the youngest European player to feature at four different major tournaments, covering both the UEFA European Championship and FIFA World Cup.

What is your honest reaction to the England starting XI? 🤔

At 22 years and 353 days old, the midfielder has already built an international CV that most elite players take a decade to assemble.

Bellingham reaches another huge England landmark

Bellingham’s tournament journey began at Euro 2020, which was played in 2021, when he was still only 17.

He then featured at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, became a central figure at Euro 2024, and has now added the 2026 World Cup to an already exceptional list.

England had already highlighted the scale of the moment before the tournament, noting that Bellingham was closing in on another major international milestone.

Bellingham has been selected across different tournament cycles, used in different roles, and asked to carry major responsibility before reaching his 23rd birthday.

England are now building around Bellingham

The Croatia match also reinforced his present status in the side.

Bellingham was listed as England’s number 10, with Declan Rice and Elliot Anderson behind him and Harry Kane leading the attack.

That role matters because England are no longer treating him as a young player gaining experience. They are building key parts of the team around his timing, power and final-third influence.

He entered the World Cup with 48 senior England caps, leaving him on course to reach 50 during the group stage if he remains available.

Bellingham’s record says plenty about his rise

The remarkable part is how normal this has started to feel.

Bellingham has moved from Birmingham City prospect to Borussia Dortmund leader, Real Madrid star and England protagonist in a ridiculously short period.

It shows how quickly Bellingham became indispensable and how long England have already been depending on him in matches that define eras.

For a player still short of his 23rd birthday, that is an extraordinary accomplishment.
