Joy Taylor launched into a fierce rant at ex-Chicago Bulls guard Jaden Ivey after his anti-LGBTQ remarks and subsequent release from the team.
The Bulls waived Ivey on March 30, formally citing conduct detrimental to the team, after he posted social media videos that included anti-LGBTQ comments and criticism of Pride Month.
The fallout quickly turned him into one of the biggest talking points in basketball. That is the backdrop to Taylor’s reaction. And she made it clear she saw hypocrisy in Ivey’s public stance.

Joy Taylor rips Jaden Ivey after the Chicago Bulls’ release
Speaking in a clip shared by Speak, Taylor did not hold back.
“Are we gonna gloss over the fact that he said he abused his wife? Are we going to ignore the fact that he’s openly judging other Christians’ faith?
“… No one is ever as Christian as the best Christian is. ‘I’m a better Christian’ is always the beat. Captain Christian is always a hypocrite,” Taylor said.
Taylor’s rant came after Ivey’s departure from Chicago following the controversy around his social media posts. Her criticism focused less on the team’s decision itself and more on what she viewed as a contradiction between Ivey’s public preaching and his past admissions.
That is what made the rant so pointed. She was not just reacting to the latest comments, but to a wider pattern she believed undermined his message and that brought fresh attention to an older interview.
Jaden Ivey’s January 2025 comments resurfaced during Taylor’s rant
Taylor was referencing remarks Ivey made in a January 10, 2025, interview, where he opened up about anger in his marriage. Speaking on the Spectrum Sports podcast, Ivey said:
“Before I married my wife, we had went through trials together. I dealt with with anger, she had to deal with a lot of anger that I had in my heart, and that turned into me somewhat being an abuser.
“I’m not saying that was it, there was things that I tried to fill in my heart. … I’m so grateful for my wife because she’s been there for me through thick and thin like through every bad moment of my life.”
Those comments resurfaced as people reacted to Taylor’s criticism and the Bulls’ decision.
In that context, her rant was framed around the gap she saw between Ivey’s past admissions and his recent judgment of others.
