So, it’s official. Steven Gerrard has been sacked by Aston Villa after yet another defeat, with Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino now on the club’s radar.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who believe Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens are willing to spend heavily to bring an elite coach to Villa Park, such as the Argentine or the German.
Now, Matt Law of the Telegraph has shared what Tuchel thinks about replacing Gerrard.
Is Thomas Tuchel going to Aston Villa?
Well, the short answer is no.
Law believes Tuchel will turn down any approach from Aston Villa, even if they offer him a significant salary as well as a huge transfer budget.
To put it simply, the 49-year-old has no interest whatsoever in replacing Gerrard, as far as Law is concerned.
That leaves Pochettino, who is said to hold a very different opinion on the vacancy at Villa Park.
According to Dean Jones, the South American is interested in taking the reins at Aston Villa, as he plans to work in England again for the first time since 2019, when he was sacked by Tottenham.
Since leaving north London, Pochettino has overseen 84 matches at PSG, winning 56 of those as he lifted the Ligue 1 title, as well as the Coupe de France and the Trophée des Champions.
Aston Villa should forget about Thomas Tuchel
In our view, even if Tuchel was interested in replacing Gerrard, Pochettino would be the better fit.
The Argentine’s sides are known for playing exciting, attacking football in an energetic system focused on pressing the opposition.
Contrastingly, Tuchel has often been accused of being too defensive in his approach, something the Aston Villa fans are probably sick of after seeing Gerrard’s dull style for the past 11 months.
