Speaking on The Redmen TV, Neil Jones has shared what he knows about Josko Gvardiol and Liverpool after Fabrizio Romano stated that the Reds have scouted the Croatian star on numerous occasions.

Gvardiol sparked all sorts of speculation a few weeks ago when he named the Reds as his dream club, and now, transfer links have emerged.

Gvardiol is undoubtedly one of the brightest young centre-backs in the world right now, but according to Jones, his sources haven’t indicated that he’s the Reds’ top centre-back target or even on their list of targets right now.

Liverpool not prioritising Gvardiol

The journalist shared what he knows about the defender.

“You need to be thinking about what’s coming down the line. I haven’t heard Gvardiol suggested as the one Liverpool want and on the list, but if he isn’t on the list they aren’t doing their job properly are they? There aren’t many world class centre-backs I see. Chelsea are still relying on Thiago Silva and have spent big money on Badiashille and Wesley Fofana, Arsenal bought Ben White for big money and are playing him at right-back,” Jones said.

Not top priority

Gvardiol may be a fantastic player, but a new centre-back isn’t really what Liverpool need right now.

Yes, they could do with some reinforcments at the back, but with the likes of Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate in the squad, realistically, they are fine in the backline.

The true glaring hole in this team is in the midfield, and if Liverpool are going to spend a huge amount on any player this summer, it should be a midfielder.
