Speaking to Sky Sports, David Ornstein has shared what he knows about Virgil van Dijk and Kevin De Bruyne’s relationship after some comments by the Dutchman this week.

The Liverpool defender named De Bruyne as the one player he’d love to see join Liverpool earlier this week.

It’s not surprising to hear that van Dijk would love De Bruyne at Liverpool. After all, the Belgian is a two-time PFA Player of the Year winner and Liverpool’s midfield is currently struggling.

However, there may be another element to these comments as Ornstein says that De Bruyne and van Dijk are actually really good friends.

Close relationship

Ornstein shared what he knows about van Dijk and De Bruyne’s relationship.

“They’re also really good friends and that is so rare to see at this level, but also within teams that are such fierce rivals at this moment in time. They were seen on holiday together. They live very close together and maybe they go to the same school. That is lovely to see from two guys at the top of their game,” Ornstein said.

Bragging rights

It’s a very interesting dynamic between the two star players of Liverpool and Manchester City.

These two sound like they’re great mates, but they must give each other a bit of grief over each club’s respective bragging rights in recent years.

De Bruyne has, of course, tasted more success in the Premier League, but van Dijk does have that ever-elusive Champions League winners’ medal that De Bruyne is so desperate for.

These two may be good friends, but it doesn’t affect their performances when they come up against each other for their respective club sides.
