Tottenham Hotspur are seemingly on the verge of signing Yves Bissouma, but this transfer may not be as big of a bargain as was first reported.
The Times initially stated that Spurs had agreed a fee in the region of £25m for the Malian, but now, Express journalist Ryan Taylor has claimed that Bissouma could end up costing north of £30m when add-ons are considered.
Bissouma had been touted for a £40m move last summer, so this still represents something of a good deal, but Tottenham aren’t getting the bargain that many thought they were.
What’s been said?
Taylor spoke about Bissouma and the fee attached to this deal.
“Spurs’ interest in Bissouma is long-standing, he’s a player they’ve looked at on multiple occasions. Even when he was at Lille he was considered to replace Mousa Dembele in 2018. It’s believed a fee of £22.5m will be paid up front, and the deal could surpass £30m with add-ons,” Taylor said.

Good deal
Even at more than £30m, this is still a good deal for Tottenham.
Indeed, at the age of 25, Bissouma has his prime years ahead of him, while his talent has led Gary Lineker to state that he would be an ‘excellent’ signing for Tottenham.
Bissouma is available for less than his true market value due to the fact he’s entering the final year of his contract, and while £25m sounds like a much better fee, £30m is still a snip for a player of his quality.
Tottenham are getting a real gem here, and in a couple of years’ time, the midfielder may be worth double what Spurs have paid for him.
