Journalist says there are 2 players who are more likely to sign for Spurs than ‘spectacular’ ace

Speaking on the Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin YouTube channel, Express journalist Charlie Gordon has been discussing Spurs and their interest in Anthony Gordon.

Tottenham have been linked with the Everton youngster for a couple of weeks now, and it was initially reported that a double-deal to bring Gordon and Richarlison to the club was in the pipeline.

Of course, that didn’t transpire as Richarlison joined Spurs without any sign of Gordon also arriving, but that isn’t to say that the rumours around the 21-year-old have stopped.

However, according to this reporter, the Everton winger isn’t a priority right now with the journalist stating that both Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence are more likely to be signed than the Toffees’ star.

What’s been said?

Gordon spoke about the rumours regarding his namesake.

“It’s a bit bizarre those rumours about £10m and writing off the Dele Alli fee, it seems a bit mental for me, out of the three we’ve discussed, Spence, Lenglet and Gordon. I’d say Gordon is the least urgent of the three for Spurs and he’s also the least likely of the three,” Gordon said

“I can’t see Everton letting him go, especially as they’ve just sold Richarlison who is one fan favourite. I know the fans love Gordon as well, he’s a homegrown talent, and he’s a spectacular player as well, I’m a big fan.

“In short, I don’t expect this move to go ahead, I don’t see a natural spot for Gordon in Spurs’ squad, and it would be a tough sell for Lampard having just let go of Richarlison to then let go of Gordon and not make that much money on him. I don’t expect that one to go through.”

Not a priority

Tottenham are seemingly not too bothered about getting Gordon in this summer, and we can understand why.

Simply put, there isn’t much space for him in the squad right now. Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Richarlison, Lucas Moura and Dejan Kulusevski make up a very strong attacking cohort, and while Gordon could potentially be utilised as a wing-back, that’s not his natural position and Spurs would probably be better off going for someone like Spence.

Gordon is a very talented player who would do well at Spurs, but right now, he’s not needed.

Spence and Lenglet are the priorities right now, and that’s the best approach for Antonio Conte’s side right now.
