Speaking on the De Telegraaf podcast, as transcribed by VoetbalZone, Dutch journalist Mike Verweij has claimed that Ajax have made an approach for Davinson Sanchez this month, but Tottenham aren’t willing to let either him or Toby Alderweireld go in January.

It’s not all that surprising to hear, after all, Spurs don’t have the most depth at centre-back, but it is reassuring to hear that Tottenham are batting away approaches for their players.

“Subsequently, a link was made with the Davinson Sánchez area, whether he was open to it. But Spurs won’t let anyone go; Not Sánchez and not Alderweireld,” Verweij said about Ajax’s transfer plans.

It is interesting to note that Ajax wanted Sanchez back, the Colombian played some of his best football for the Eredivisie outfit, and he moved away from them for a big fee.

We have to wonder what this now means for Tottenham’s hunt for a centre-back this month.

It’s been widely reported that Mourinho wants a new defender through the door, and there have been links to the likes of Eder Militao on the back of reports that the Tottenham boss doesn’t trust Sanchez.

It seems as though Sanchez is staying this month, and while that decision may divide opinion slightly, one thing that is bound to make Spurs fans happy is that they also plan on keeping hold of Alderweireld, but there never really seemed to be any danger of him moving on in any case.
