Tottenham Hotspur might be in the market for a central defender this month.

Speculation is rife that Spurs are interested in bringing Sergio Ramos to North London, while others have also been linked.

But AS in Spain is now reporting that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho likes Real Madrid stalwart Eder Militao and is interested in the 22-year-old.

The report adds that Mourinho has been a long-time fan of the former Porto powerhouse – who cost the Spanish giants close to £50 million in 2019 – and is willing to offer him an escape route to the English capital, having not played under Zinedine Zidane since October.

AS also claims that the Portuguese coach has lost faith in Davinson Sanchez - who has played one Premier League game since the dismal 3-3 draw with West Ham United – and that an injury to Toby Alderweireld in recent months has reminded the Lilywhites boss about how fragile his backline is.

Mourinho’s side are only four points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool – who have played one game more – and a good January window could seriously set up Tottenham for a major title challenge during the second half of the campaign.

Whether or not Militao will be involved in that pursuit, time will tell.
