Newcastle United reportedly have a strong chance of signing Brighton & Hove Albion superstar Leandro Trossard in the January transfer window, with the attacker available for just £25m.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey via the Talking Transfers podcast, the Toon ‘would stand a good chance’ of signing Trossard in the New Year, with the winger enjoying the form of his life with the Seagulls and his contract with Brighton expiring next summer, leading many to believe that the Belgian international could leave the Amex in January.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed quite a productive season with Brighton, with Trossard bagging six goals and two assists in the league, and as per Bailey, the Premier League side could accept an offer of just £25m for the former KRC Genk star, a considerable fee given his contract situation.

90min have also reported that Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth is keen on signing Trossard, who could soon be on the radars of other Premier League clubs if the Belgian star can maintain this level of form in the English top-flight.

Indeed, with Trossard in the form of his life and hitting the peak of his career, Newcastle could land a coup in January if they win the race to sign 21-cap Red Devil attacker, and £25m would be an impressive fee considering the winger’s stats this season.

Newcastle’s signings under the PIF regime have been home-runners in terms of elevating the squad to a new level, and Trossard could be yet another addition to the squad that achieves just this if Eddie Howe can win the race for the Brighton superstar in January.

Newcastle’s rise in the Premier League over the last 12 months has been nothing short of outstanding, yet whilst the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron have developed greatly under Howe, adding another wide-attacker in Trossard could be a fantastic investment.

After all, the winger is in the best form of his Premier League career, and Newcastle capitalising on this for short-term gains in the top-flight could lead to an even higher finish in the table for the Magpies, who are currently in with an outside chance of finishing in the top-seven.
