Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Ian McGarry has claimed that Newcastle United are now interested in Wolves winger Adama Traore.

Traore has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham this month. So much so that Dean Jones even claimed that Spurs were ‘confident’ of landing the winger from Wolves.

However, in recent days, it seems as though the race has become a bit more competitive.

Chelsea have been linked to Traore, and now McGarry states that Newcastle are also in the race for the Spaniard’s signature.

What’s been said about Traore?

The journalist shared what he knows about the 25-year-old.

“Another of the Premier League’s most exciting players is Adama Traore of Wolves. He was a graduate of the Barcelona academy and he’s now attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. We reported a year ago that Wolves were looking for over £100m for the player, I think that fee has certainly come down since then and the player himself has made very few starts this season, and he would probably prefer to go to a club where he feels valued and he’s able to express his talent and ability more expansively,” McGarry said.

Should join Newcastle

If Traore wants to join a club where he’ll feel valued and he’ll be able to express his talent, then surely Newcastle is the club for him?

The Spaniard would immediately become one of the Magpies’ best players in Eddie Howe’s expansive system, and if he’s given a similar license to innovate as Allan Saint-Maximin, then he should be able to express himself however he wants on the pitch.

Compare that to Antonio Conte’s reported plan for Traore, which is to stick him at wing-back, and you can see why Newcastle may be the more appealing option.

Add in that the Magpies are super-rich and will be challenging for top honours in a few years’ time, and a move to St James’ Park begins to make more and more sense for Traore.
