Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has been discussing Adama Traore amid ongoing transfer speculation around the winger.
The Wolves ace has been strongly linked with Tottenham in recent weeks, while Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the winger.
However, things could have turned out rather differently.
Indeed, Castles claims that Leeds United were interested in the summer, and now the journalist is let to believe that the Whites were willing to pay a cash sum of over £30m for the winger.
Unfortunately, a deal never came to fruition as Traore had no interest in heading to Elland Road.
What’s been said about Traore?
Castles was speaking about the interest Spurs and Leeds had in Traore over the summer.
“Wolves made it a relatively accessible move in that they were prepared to allow Adama to move on loan to Tottenham with an option to buy one year down the line. My guidance with what happened there was that Nuno felt that Tottenham were never serious about doing that deal. Leeds United also tried to sign him last summer for a cash sum of over £30m, but Adama was not interested in moving to Leeds United, he wouldn’t speak to them, so that deal also fell through,” Castles said.
James’ alternative
It seems as though Leeds were desperate for a lightning-quick winger this summer, and while they didn’t get Traore, they did land Daniel James.
James has been decent at Leeds so far, and he’s actually outperformed Traore statistically this term, with the Spaniard failing to register a single goal or an assist for Wolves this term.
However, that isn’t to say that Traore is a bad player. After all, he has been described as ‘unplayable’ in the past.
£30m for Traore would have been a hefty fee, but his pace and strength would have made him perfect for Leeds’ style of play.
