Speaking on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has been discussing Newcastle United and their interest in Jack Harrison.
The Leeds United ace has been the subject of plenty of interest from the Magpies in recent weeks, but it seems as though the Englishman will be staying at Elland Road.
Indeed, Jacobs says that Leeds want massive money for the winger, while the Yorkshire club’s owner has been adamant that he doesn’t want to sell the former Manchester City man.
It will be a shame if Newcastle can’t land Harrison as, according to Jacobs, Eddie Howe genuinely believes the left-footer would be a great fit for the club.
What’s been said?
Jacobs shared what he knows about Harrison, Howe and Newcastle’s chances of landing the player.
“Newcastle even if they bid high for Harrison they may still see it fended off because Leeds have sold Phillips and Raphinha, and they lack a bit of depth,” Jacobs said.
“The Newcastle interest in Harrison is absolutely genuine, but the price Leeds are looking for at the lowest end is around £35m with add-ons on top, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Leeds held out for £40m, and I don’t think that’s a price Newcastle are willing to pay. I think Harrison is a player that Howe genuinely believes would be a fit at the football club, but agreeing an offer and a price with Leeds is going to be tough.”

Interesting fit
Harrison is a fantastic footballer, and Howe believes that he would be a great fit at Newcastle, but in our view, it would be interesting to see him at St James’ Park.
Newcastle’s current left-winger is Allan Saint-Maximin – very much a maverick who loves to cut inside and get shots away, while Harrison is more of a hard-worker who utilises his left foot to beat his full-back and cross while also getting on the end of crosses at his back post.
Harrison and Saint-Maximin are both very different players, and if Howe thinks that Harrison would’ve been a great fit then perhaps Newcastle will be going in a different direction this season.
