Arsenal are potentially in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, and Ajax ace Andre Onana is the main name being linked.
The Gunners do have Bernd Leno, but he could be on the move. Mat Ryan has returned to Brighton whilst Runar Runarsson simply isn’t good enough.
If Leno goes, Arsenal will need a new first-choice stopper – yet another problem for Edu to solve at the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Onana
NOS in the Netherlands reported earlier this month that Arsenal were favourites to sign Onana after he was promised a first-choice role.
Onana is inside the final year of his contract at Ajax, and looks likely to move on this summer. At 25, Onana could be the first-choice Arsenal goalkeeper for years to come.
The Cameroonian ace has had his ban for a doping violation reduced, meaning he can now play again in November, with Ajax seeking around £8million according to NOS.

Watts offers update on Onana
Goal’s Arsenal correspondent Charles Watts has now suggested that the Gunners haven’t made any further contact for Onana other than to congratulate his representatives on getting the ban reduced.
Watts added that there are now ‘lots of clubs’ in France pursuing a deal for Onana, meaning Arsenal are at risk of missing out.
“The fact is that Arsenal haven’t made an offer, they haven’t really been back in touch with Ajax, other than – from what I’m told – to say congratulations to Onana’s people on getting the verdict reduced, but they haven’t come back in with any further offer.”
“There is plenty of interest still from clubs in England, from clubs in France. Lots of clubs in France, I’m told, are beginning to put the feelers out for the potential signing of Andre Onana, but as of yet from Arsenal, nothing other than the congratulations to Onana’s people,” he added.
Paris Saint-German are set to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma, so they’re unlikely to be in the race. If Lyon, Lille or Marseille make a move, Arsenal would surely back themselves to fend off the competition.
