Leeds United will reportedly look to sign Wolves striker Hwang Hee-chan in the January transfer window after missing out on the South Korean international on deadline day.

According to journalist Dean Jones via GiveMeSport, Jesse Marsch will move again in the winter market to sign Hwang after Leeds were unsuccessful in a late attempt to bring the Wolves star to Elland Road, with the Whites reportedly having a £20m bid rejected by Wolves for the attacker.

Leeds also missed out on Olympique Marseille striker Bamba Dieng, who opted against a move to the Premier League in favour of signing for OGC Nice, however, a last-minute deal to the Ligue 1 side collapsed due to a failed medical, with the Senegal international still at the Stade Velodrome.

As per Jones, Leeds will also look to sign Cody Gakpo again in January, with the PSV Eindhoven, much like Hwang and Dieng, failed to win a deadline day move despite plenty of interest from Premier League clubs, with Whites sporting director Victor Orta even reportedly flying out to the Netherlands to get a deal over the line.

Indeed, Leeds’ luck in the latter stages of the transfer window was rough, to say the least, and Marsch will be looking to rectify that in January with the signing of Hwang, who was coached by the American at RB Salzburg and brought to Germany by the Elland Road boss with RB Leipzig.

Labelled by Erling Haaland as an ‘absolutely crazy’ player, Hwang has impressed since moving to Wolves last year, yet reuniting with Marsch at Leeds could be a good move for the South Korean star given the moves Bruno Lage has made over the summer, with Sasa Kalajdzic being signed and Diego Costa now having a trial at Molineux.

Signing Hwang could push Leeds over the midtable hurdle

Leeds look like a new team under Marsch this season, and whilst they have been some unlucky results, there’s growing optimism around the Yorkshire giants that something special could happen this campaign, and signing Hwang in January could push the Whites over the midtable hurdle.

After all, there’s a strong chance that Leeds could challenge for a top-ten spot, and signing a quality attacker like Hwang for the second half of the season could get Marsch and his squad over that barrier that many Premier League sides fail to break pass.
