Chelsea will reportedly launch a new attempt to sign AC Milan attacker Rafael Leao in 2023, with Liverpool also believed to be interested in the Portuguese international.
According to journalist Dean Jones via GiveMeSport, the Blues will return with an effort to sign the forward next year after Chelsea reportedly had a late attempt to bring Leao to Stamford Bridge rejected by Milan, who are also reportedly looking to tie the winger down to a new contract.
Leao has been one of Milan’s best players over the last 12 months and has this season been in incredible form, with the 23-year-old currently on three goals and six assists in all competitions after the attacker was named Serie A’s MVP last term as the Rossoneri won the Scudetto.
With a reported release clause of £127m, Leao will be no easy player for Chelsea to sign with Milan reluctant to let their star attacker leave, with Liverpool also reportedly in the chase for the former LOSC Lille superstar, as well as Premier League champions Manchester City.

Indeed, Leao could be the most in-demand player for top clubs in 2023, and according to Jones, Chelsea will look to sign the attacker at the end of this season in a move that could end the Blues’ attacking problems that have plagued them for so long.
The journalist said: “Leao is a bit more dynamic than Havertz. The way he plays is with more thrust and bursts and, at the moment, I genuinely think he is one of the most entertaining footballers in the world. Chelsea will be back for talks about him at the end of the season.”
Leao signing for Chelsea will be a massive blow for Liverpool

Chelsea’s search for a world-class attacker who actually suits their system has been going on for what feels like forever, and whilst Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could offer a short-term solution to this problem, Leao could change it for good if the west London side beat Liverpool to the attacker’s signature.
After all, Leao has been one of Serie A’s best attackers over the past year, and Chelsea adding such a talent is a scary prospect for many rival fans, with the winger perfectly suited for the Premier League and the direction Graham Potter wants to take the Blues.
