CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs has told Give Me Sport that Eddie Howe would prefer to sign Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis this summer – rather than Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet.
Newcastle have been linked with both players. The Toon have pulled out of negotiations to sign Reims ace Hugo Ekitike meaning they are still on the lookout for a striker. A winger is also likely to be a consideration.
So, Newcastle are showing interest in Dennis. The Nigeria international would be a solid signing, even if he is perhaps slightly similar to Chris Wood and Callum Wilson. The Toon are also in the race for Cornet.

Jacobs delivers an update. He says that Newcastle would prefer to sign Dennis over Cornet. Jacobs also says that Watford are more than open to the sale of their striker, with reports saying he is rated at £20million.
“Newcastle are also considering Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet and Emmanuel Dennis. Dennis seems to be Howe’s preference between the two and Watford are very open to a sale,” Jacobs said.
Jacobs: Howe would prefer Dennis to Cornet at Newcastle
Howe needs to reconsider. Newcastle play with one striker and have Wood and Wilson as two very-solid options. But on the right flank, they need improvement. Ryan Fraser, Miggy Almiron and Jacob Murphy are good.
But they are not great and if Newcastle want to reach the next level, they need a better player to compliment the front three. Cornet would give them that edge. Howe should prefer Cornet to Dennis in the coming weeks.
