Galatasaray are reportedly on the verge of signing PSG striker Mauro Icardi on loan, with the 29-year-old reportedly on Newcastle United’s radar during the summer transfer window.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Argentine international is set to sign for the Turkish giants on a dry loan, with PSG looking all summer to offload the former Inter Milan attacker after failing to sell him to the likes of Newcastle and Manchester United, who were reportedly offered the chance to buy the forward.

A reported £45m signing for PSG back in 2020, Icardi never settled in the French capital despite being labelled by-then manager Thomas Tuchel as a ‘world-class’ attacker, yet the forward’s time in Ligue 1 now looks to finally be over ahead of a move to Galatasaray.

Turkish clubs have until tomorrow evening to sign new players, and the likes of Besiktas and Galatasaray have gone big on some impressive deals this summer, namely Dele Alli, Lucas Torreira and now Icardi, who could be a game-changing signing for Gala.

The Istanbul giants endured their worst season ever last term as Galatasaray missed out on European football as a whole, yet some big signings that looks set to be capped off by Icardi could change all of that, and for Newcastle, they will be somewhat glad they missed out on the Argentine striker.

Whilst the Toon had the money to spend to sign Icardi, the decision to instead move for Alexander Isak will, in the long-term, likely prove to be the wiser decision for Eddie Howe’s side, with the Swedish international much younger and much more suited to the Magpies’ long-term project.

Galatasaray signing Icardi is a win-win for everyone

Icardi’s career has been something of a mess ever since joining PSG, yet moving to Turkey to play for a club as big as Galatasaray will be a major career reset for the South American maverick, who is in need of a reset in football away from the media and glamour of Paris.

Although Galatasaray might be a cauldron that amplifies the worst in Icardi, there’s a good chance the forward will use the move as a chance to buckle down and work on bettering himself as a player, with Turkey the ideal country for a player like the Argentine to get his career back on track.
