Fabrizio Romano has written in his Caught Offside column that both Newcastle United and Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign PSG striker Mauro Icardi this summer – with PSG keen to offload the Argentine.
Icardi, 29, joined PSG in the summer of 2019 – initially on loan before a deal was made permanent in 2020. He has scored 38 goals in 92 games for PSG, also laying on 10 assists. He has two years left on his current contract.
A £45million signing, Icardi opted to leave Inter Milan – where he was captain and had scored 124 goals in 219 games – to move to PSG. But it is a move that has backfired, and now he is looking for a new move to reignite his career.
Newcastle and United both need strikers. The Toon want an attacker that can offer something different to Callum Wilson and Chris Wood. Manchester United simply need a no.9, with doubts over the future of Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I can now reveal that the Argentine also been offered to Newcastle,” Romano said. “He has been offered to Man Utd and Newcastle who have not made any kind of proposal for Icardi so far.”
Newcastle and Manchester United offered PSG and Argentina ace Icardi
What a signing Icardi would be for a Premier League side. Yes, he has struggled at PSG, but that is more down to a lack of game time. Any striker will tell you that they need rhythm and regular game time to get the best out of them.
At PSG, he has had to rival the likes of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe during his time in France’s capital. To resurrect his career, Icardi needs to join a side where he is first choice. He would be a top signing for Newcastle or United.
