According to Fabrizio Romano, Everton are now close to signing Newcastle and Tottenham target James Garner from Manchester United.
What’s the story?
Well, it was said that Erik ten Hag is happy to let the England Under-21 international leave Old Trafford this summer, despite his impressive efforts on loan at Nottingham Forest last season.
Manchester United consequently slapped a £14m price tag on Garner, which Everton have presumably met.
Romano does not actually state a price tag, although the reliable Italian confirms that the Toffees are “close” to an agreement with the Red Devils, despite bids from three other clubs.
Those sides are not named, although the news comes just weeks after some sources claimed that Tottenham had submitted an offer after learning of Garner’s availability.
Newcastle are also keen, but are supposedly reluctant to pay £14m.
With tomorrow’s 11pm deadline fast approaching, we believe Everton could even wrap this signing up today.
Garner put his name up in lights last season after making 49 appearances in all competitions for Nottingham Forest, as he helped Steve Cooper guide the club back into the Premier League.
So far this term, the 21-year-old is yet to play a single second of football for Manchester United, and has been left out of the last two Premier League squads entirely by Ten Hag.
Everton finally acting smartly by signing Newcastle & Tottenham target
At last, the days of signing aged midfield players such as Fabian Delph appear to be over.
The £33m capture of Amadou Onana appears to be a masterstroke, as the 21-year-old looks capable of becoming a genuine superstar in the Premier League.

Now, if Everton can successfully lure Garner to Goodison Park and pair him with the Belgium international, Frank Lampard would have a very, very exciting midfield duo on his hands.
Be sure to keep an eye on developments, as there could still be a late twist involving Garner’s future.
