Daily Star journalist Paul Brown has told Give Me Sport that Daniel Levy would love to hijack Chelsea’s move to sign Anthony Gordon from Everton this summer – and bring the English wonderkid to Tottenham in the coming days.

Gordon, 21, is said to be keen to join Chelsea with the Blues ‘confident’ of completing a whopping £60million deal in the coming days. Tottenham, though, do remain interested in the England Under-21 international.

It comes after Gordon returned to Everton after a successful loan with Preston last summer. In Everton’s fight against relegation, Gordon was the star man. His work rate, his goals, his assists really struck a chord with fans.

Of course, he is an Everton academy product and Toffees fans would be gutted to lose him. However, the overriding feeling is that £60million for Gordon is too good to turn down. He remains an Everton player, for now.

Now, Star journalist Brown states that Tottenham could still make a late move for Gordon. The reporter states that Levy would love to hijack Chelsea’s move – not only because Gordon is a talent, but because it is Chelsea.

“Don’t rule out a late bid from Spurs, especially as they know it would really annoy Chelsea, which is something I’m sure the Spurs chairman would love to do,” Brown told Give Me Sport this week.

Gordon is a top player – but £60million is a bloated price tag. He is a good player but four goals in 63 senior appearances for Everton is something that should worry Chelsea. Gordon could improve that tally.

Of course, during those 63 games, the majority have come in an Everton side fighting relegation. Goals were not always going to be aplenty. Chelsea and Tottenham have seen past that. Spurs could do with a homegrown player.

This season, they have signed Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet. All players that are not homegrown. Gordon would improve that tally of homegrown players this summer.
