Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to meet the salary demands of Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic, as quoted on Il Napoli Online.

The Sport Italia journalist has added that the 29-year-old central defender could leave Napoli.

“About HysajI have more hope, while I believe that Maksimovic will go away,” Il Napoli Online quotes Longari as saying.

“On him, there are many teams ready to satisfy him even at an economic level, including Tottenham.”

Linked away

Maksimovic has been linked with moves away from Napoli, with Liverpool and West Ham United reported to be interested in him.

Sky Sports have linked defending Premier League champions Liverpool with the Serbia international, as covered by HITC Sport here, while talkSPORT claimed of a bid from West Ham in September 2020.

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti worked with Maksimovic when he was in charge of Napoli and described him as “excellent” in 2018, as quoted in TuttoNapoli.

Do Tottenham Hotspur need a centre-back?

Tottenham are not exactly in desperate need of a central defender in the January transfer window.

Eric Dier is doing well in defence, and Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho also has Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga for that position.

Meanwhile, Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin has said that “barring last-minute miracles”, Christian Eriksen will stay at Inter Milan, as quoted in Calciomercato.it.

Sky Sports have reported Tottenham’s interested in re-signing the attacking midfielder on loan from Inter, with the player himself keen on a return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
