According to Gerard Romero, Liverpool have offered Barcelona wonderkid Gavi a contract worth €6m-a-year (£5m-a-year).

What’s the story?

Well, the 17-year-old is one of the hottest prospects on the planet, and Liverpool are keen to take advantage of his contract situation.

Gavi becomes a free agent in June 2023, and as things stand, Barcelona are struggling to agree a new contract with the 4-cap Spain international (Mundo Deportivo).

Liverpool’s £5m-a-year offer equates to £96,153-a-week, which would place the youngster above Andy Robertson and Diogo Jota on the salary bill (Spotrac).

If Barcelona cannot agree fresh terms with the Spaniard soon, then they risk losing him for nothing in 2023.

Therefore, if Gavi continues to be difficult to negotiate with, the Spanish giants may decide to take the safe option and cash in this summer.

Gavi would thrive at Liverpool

If Jürgen Klopp got his hands on Gavi, it would be a special moment for the Reds.

The teenager looks set to become one of Europe’s elite midfielders, and it speaks volumes that he already has four caps for Spain.

Gavi has even been compared to Xavi, which tells you all you need to know about what type of player he is.

Realistically, if Klopp can lure Gavi to Anfield, Liverpool will have their midfield for the future sorted, even after the German is gone.

Alongside the 18-year-old Harvey Elliott, and potentially Jude Bellingham too, the Reds would be sorted in the midfield department for the next decade.

Keep an eye on this saga, as Gavi could soon be leaving Barcelona.
