Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has claimed that Adama Traore will be earning less at Barcelona than he would have at Tottenham.

The winger was very strongly linked with a move to Spurs this month, but for one reason or another, that move didn’t come to fruition and he ended up going to Barcelona.

Everything was seemingly agreed between Tottenham and Traore last month, with one report even claiming that he’d signed an agreement to join the London club.

However, Barcelona swooped in at the eleventh hour, and the ‘dangerous’ winger ended up turning down Spurs and heading to Spain.

Castles claimed Traore was offered a lower salary by Barcelona than Tottenham.

“They failed on a midfielder that Conte wanted from Fiorentina, Sofyan Amrabat. They failed on Adama Traore at right-wing-back, losing out to Barcelona who were offering a lower salary than Tottenham were offering,” Castles said.

Money isn’t everything

This just goes to show, money isn’t everything in football, even when sometimes it seems as though it is.

You may ask why Traore would pick Barcelona over Spurs if they were offering a smaller pay packet, but the answer could be quite simple.

At the end of the day, Barcelona are Barcelona and Tottenham are Tottenham, and while La Blaugrana are certainly on a downward spiral, there is a lot more prestige attached to playing for Barca than there is playing for Tottenham.
