Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, journalist Ian McGarry has claimed that Mikel Arteta has asked Edu to land Julian Draxler this summer in a swap deal for Hector Bellerin.

It’s been reported that the Spain international is keen to leave the London club in the summer, and one of the reported interested parties is PSG.

Due to the ongoing financial situations with covid, Arsenal believe it’s more financially viable to do a swap deal, and Arteta has asked Edu to try and get Draxler.

“Arteta has looked at PSG’s squad and has told Edu, his sporting director, that given we’re in a situation where by it’s more economically viable and in a sporting sense to trade players rather than trying to extract a serious transfer fee for someone like Bellerin, who two years ago would have been worth €50 or €60m,” McGarry said

“Given the fact that Arsenal do not expect to get that amount of money for Bellerin, Arteta has asked Edu and his board to discuss the possibility of a swap deal for Julian Draxler the German international creative midfielder.”

This is an incredibly interesting update.

The Germany international has been on Arsenal’s radar for quite some time if reports are to be believed, and a swap deal here could finally see the World Cup winner move to the Premier League.

Whether or not this deal comes to fruition remains to be seen, but it’s certainly interesting to hear that Arsenal are keen to do a swap deal with Bellerin.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on in the coming months.
